AspiraCon, the Project Management company, win Euro 100K deal with CompuCal Software Systems
17 October, 2008
Cork-based project management company, AspiraCon has secured a contract to deliver project management and development integration services to CompuCal Software Services, also based in Cork, over the next 18 months.
Under the terms of the contract, signed in September following a three-month evaluation period, CompuCal will utilise AspiraCon’s Project Collaborator system to project manage the development of its software projects for the next eighteen months.
“Our project management system allows us to tailor a project management solution that meets CompuCal’s specific objectives in managing deliverables within the highly regulated pharmaceutical industry,” said AspiraCon MD, Pat Lucey, who established the company with Colum Horgan in early 2007. “We are very excited to sign up to this deal which demonstrates that Irish companies can compete and win with the right set of innovative products,” Lucey said.
The mission statement of AspiraCon is ‘to take the chaos out of project management.’ AspiraCon develops its software products from their base at the Rubicon Centre in Cork, which is an accelerated centre of excellence for high potential technology businesses that can network and share ideas on how to exploit the latest technologies. As well as developing its own products, AspiraCon provides specialised project management staff to oversee complex technical projects and also offers bespoke software development services to its client base, which includes clients such as Waterford Technologies, Tyco, Eirgrid VMWare and Boston Scientific.
CompuCal Software Solutions and the Dornan family have been in business in Cork for over 30 years, servicing the needs of the global life science sector, offering electrical, instrumentation, and validation services. For the past decade the company has established the CompuCal package as the leading calibration management solution, according to CEO, Jackie Dornan.
CompuCal Software Systems provides regulatory compliant software solutions to the life sciences market globally. Its clients are spread across pharmaceutical, medical devices and biotech companies. CompuCal’s main area of specialty is in the provision of calibration/maintenance management software, configured to integrate into other systems and in offering a complete solution for clients, said Dornan.
CompuCal has established a client base of world leading pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device companies, including companies such as GlaxoSmithkline, Roche Pharmaceuticals, Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Élan, Millipore, Stryker, GE, and Schering Plough. CompuCal’s understanding of its clients’ calibration and maintenance needs stems from over 20 years of instrumentation and compliance experience, according to Dornan.
“Our understanding and commitment to quality will cement CompuCal’s presence in the global life sciences market and will be used as a platform to further expand into the US market,” Dornan said. “And the discipline AspiraCon have brought to managing project change has driven dramatic improvement to our on-time and on-budget project numbers, facilitating the introduction of a major technology refresh into our products,” said Dornan. “This will drive further improvement and best-in-class project deliverables to our highly regulated clients.”
Colum Horgan, director of operations with AspiraCon is not surprised that organisations are tightening their belts in the current recession. “The opportunity for us here is to demonstrate to our clients that use of improved project management practices will generate real bottom-line savings,” Horgan said. “A tightening market means more companies are looking for ways to be more efficient and to eliminate waste. That is where good project management practices come in. By eliminating schedule slips and cost overruns, we help our clients reduce their project overrun costs by up to 50%.”
